Statement by Prof. Nando Marzo, Assessor for Tourism, Culture and Sport
The stone shatters, turns to powder and is transformed into a form as warm as its nature, as golden as its colour, ancient and new at the same time. The message of love travels on the tip of a chisel and penetrates the folds in the rocks, losing itself between a fossil and a sinuous line which rises to meet the sky.
Passersby are shaken out of their indifference, the curiosity of the very young is aroused, the enthusiasm of the creative is ignited, the resistence of sceptics fades: for the second spring in a row the seaside promenade of Leuca has seen its "stone garden" flower and the perfume of art mixes with that of native plants and seeps along through the eclectic architecture of nineteenth century villas.
The desire for peace can also be shouted out in this way, through the love of life, the love of simple and beautiful things!
To you, the artists of various nationalities, thank-you for being here. Thank you for having instilled in us your desire to create and give, the desire to meet and interact, to interweave your different cultures. Thank-you for having shouted out with us, from this farthest piece of Italian soil, a message of peace and solidarity, towards the "MEDITERRANEO".
